Spent the last few days puttering around here... Weeding/watering the garden, putting some finishing touches/tweaks on the computers so they are more of less like mine & putting the garage in order.

I decided not to plant any winter onions, so the only garden project i have going now is experimenting with drying some Fuji type Jap persimmons. Not going very well so far. They have srhiveled up some, turning an ugly brown, and are not tasting very good, either. Slight chocalate taste. similar to Mamey fruit from Mexico. Will continue for a few more days, but am not expeccting a miracle to turn them around.

Pureed the pumpkin and started bagging in 15 oz bags to be frozen. I ran out of bags before I ran out of pumpkin. I hate it when that happens. Only had 6 bags. I need at least 6 more bags for this batch.

The temperature is swinging again... 79/rainy yesterday & 54/raining pretty good right now (1.8" thus far). I'm not sure what I will do to amuse myself today...

Boxed up & moved all the 'old' incandescent bulbs into the attic.

Sharpen & thoroughly cleaned the chainsaws.

Today was our shopping day & the garden is still to wet to do any weeding anyway... We did pick up our 'Yellow Granex' onion sets which we hope to plant over the next couple of days, along with the 'Lorz' garlic.

Mrs. Ranch requested that I make a batch of 'German Rouladen', so I got them prepped. Steaks cut to 1/4" thick, slathered in whole brown mustard, topped with dill pickle slices & thinly sliced onions. Then rolled them up & tied them with butcher's string. I'll brown them on the grill & then braise them in the oven. They will be served with mashed potatoes (mixed with homemade sauerkraut) & brussel sprouts.

Here they are after putting some grill marks on them...

Then added diced carrots/celery/additional onions, some red wine & beef broth before putting them in the oven at 350 degrees for 75 minutes.

Teacher conference tonight after work - scheduled for 15 minutes took closer to 50 minutes, oh well. Kid is in kindergarten but academically more of a second or third grader.

Tore out some of the carpet in the second room. Found that someone had painted the sub floor in much of the room. I'll have to get a lead test kit before we continue with the project. If its lead paint we'll carpet over it again. I hate carpet. Lead paint was banned in US from residential market in 1978 this room was finished in 1969 / 70.

Made Italian Bread & wheat bread.

Made a pot of pinto beans (will add japs, buckboard bacon & cilantro later).

Cut the ferns in the hanging baskets back & moved all plants on the porches into the greenhouse. Then connected/ops-checked the heater & fan as the weather is suppose to get cold, with lows of 37 & 34 forecast for tonight & tomorrow.

Had to have the fireplace cleaned as Mrs. Ranch said I'm getting too old to be climbing on the roof any more (she's probably right)...

Got a job to do for work this afternoon, but hoping to get out and drain the rain barrel and chop up the remaining leaves that's fallen.

shoveled 8" of snow

Dad called me this morning, they got their first snow flurries this morning. Luckily nothing here yet. :)

I had forgotten about the job of pulling that chimmey cleaner up and down the chimney while standing on a sheet metal roof, but now that you have reminded me, i have another reason to enjoy being far enough South i do not need to do that any more.

@ErnieCopp Just remember, no matter how far south you move the old adage still applies - Water always wins.

The snow we got will be gone by Thanksgiving. Forecast is calling for 55° F and 1 to 3" of rain on Thanksgiving.

Over the weekend I mounted the bench vise I've had for a few years and started hand cutting dovetails again. If you're interested in this Paul Sellers has a great youtube video on this task.

Yan,
I guess you are right about the water, but mud comes pretty close sometimes.

Spent the last few days running around doing errands.

Today I filled the bird feeders, made a loaf of wheat bread, cleaned/painted the fireplace tools, got the smoker ready for tomorrow & put the new license plates/sticker on Mrs. Ranch's Jeep.

It's been raining the last 2 days here, so I've been puttering around in the house. Started cleaning the guest house (building a pile of stuff that will be tossed in the 'hole') because we have a young gal from Germany coming for the holidays. Depending on what she says, I'll talk to her parents about her staying here. The 'refugee' problem is going to blow up over there & she is safer here with us.

I also moved the desktop computer from the guest house to the built-in desk in our kitchen & put the laptop over there for her to use.

I baked the batch of dinner rolls that I made yesterday (I forgot about them till just now)...

Dang, it got cold fast!!! The front blew through about 1700 hrs yesterday & the temp went from 75 to 43 in less than an hour!!! High today is suppose to be a showery 47. I hate 'winter'.

Made bread for supper. We're still eating off the sirloin steak so all we have to cook is potatoes & Mrs. Ranch is making a pot of green beans.

Moved a printer into my office & set it up.

Start staging Christmas decorations for Mrs Ranch to do her thing...

Got all my onion sets in the mail yesterday from Dixondale Farms in Carrizo Springs, TX. I guess I'm going to get out there in this nasty weather and plant them while I have time.

I'm going stir crazy. It's done nothing but rain here for since Friday to top it off the kids and I have been fighting off a cold. I'm ready for spring now. :)

Still cold & wet here (50 degrees & drizzle)... yesterday we got 0.90" of rain & we have 0.10" thus far today. Needless to say, the ground is saturated.

Received the new disk for my friend's computer. Installed it this morning & cloned it off of this backup disk (after applying all the updates). It's basically done, so I'm just leaving it to 'burn in' for a couple of days.

Also received the dogs new beds (Christmas came early for them). You should have seen them going nuts!!! They're always so animated when they get something new, they've 'cleaned up' this year for sure, LOL!!!

Since it's nasty out, I'm going to make Oven Fried Chicken for supper tonight, along with mashed potatoes & some corn from our spring garden.

Made bread dough & got a pot of pinto beans soaking for tomorrow.
