Tilled half of the garden, formed 3 rows & then planted 300 onions in one of the rows.

Went over to the barn to set a couple more modified traps, but I decided I wouldn't be doing that today, nor would I be going in there for at least a week... I saw that one of the traps had caught 'something' & it wasn't a possum in... it was a skunk!!! I'll just wait until I'm sure it's dead...

It's funny you say that. My wife keeps a scrap bucket for potato peels, etc by the back door that gets dumped in the compost pile. Last week, we had this visitor show up for his own Thanksgiving feast.

So I had today off as vacation planned to re-cooperate after traveling for thanksgiving. Well that dream was killed when the second kid came down with the tummy bug that got her sister three nights ago. A 17 month old throwing up and not keeping anything down is no fun what so ever. We're running on empty.

Raining. High of about 40 F. I need to clean the gutters and spray my peach tree with fungicide.

Hauled 15 rolls of hay over to hay trap by the barn.

Went to pick up the Gator after repairs. I'll keep in the garage until the skunk is dead...

Did the weekly shopping & picked up a load of cattle feed.

Put out 2 tubs of molasses, 2 salt blocks & 3 more rolls of hay for the cattle as it is going to be cold/rainy for the next 4 days.

Made a pot of chilli & a batch of cornbread for supper. Also got a pot of pinto beans soaking for tomorrow.

Cleaned & repainted a metal/glass table for the new printer/scanner/fax machine.

Went to the bank & picked up some stuff at the grocery store as we will be making Christmas cookies this weekend (Biscotti, Cucidati & the Sicilian 7-layer cookies).

Continue working on decorating the Christmas tree...

Installed the new printer/scanner/fax machine (Brother MFC-5800DW).

Still cold & rainy here today (1.32" for today).

Continuing on with our Christmas cookie hit parade this morning... today it's the Cuccidati (Sicilian Christmas Cookies). I was told to go light on the 'glaze' as we don't have a lot of powdered sugar & Mrs. Ranch wants to make 'Wedding Cookies'...

Ranch, I have the very same Brother MFC-5800DW in my home office. Run's flawlessly. With 3 teenage girls, it gets used often.

4 inches of snow since 7 am. First snow of the season.

Just shoveled and had two "helpers". For some reason a 4 year old isn't yet able to really use a snow shovel...

Pot of soup on the stove now.

Mr. Yan, Since winter is starting to set in...

Well it's early but it is setting in...

Sorry but the photo is from a cheap phone through window screen.

Tonight low forecast to be 29 F. Tomorrow high calls for 36 F. The snow will be gone soon.

Still cold & rainy here today (1.09" thus far). It is just plain nasty out there, even the dove are hunkered down trying to stay dry & out of the wind. Here are 5 on the front service porch...

Cold_Doves.jpg

Today we made the Sicilian 7-layer cookies (which will be finished tomorrow as they need to set overnight in the refrigerator).

I also made a pot of 15-bean soup for supper tonight.

How much did you guys end up getting?

I was in Chicago Saturday and Sunday for the Bears v 49ers game. When we left around half time Chicago already has about an inch or two.

Refilled the chlorine reservoir for the septic system.

Picked up the 7 Mayan prints from the framer, as she called to tell us they were done (these are for the guest house bedroom). Mrs. Ranch finally decided which of the 2 fabrics she wanted for the new drape valances/window toppers & bedspread (if she's happy, I'm happy). I placed the order so I'm done for the time being...

Made bread.

Moved all the plants into the greenhouse after cutting them back as tomorrow night is suppose to be 36 degrees.

Burned all the trash.

Disconnected all the hoses & put the insulated faucet covers on.

Jeez it's still in the low 40s, with the winds between 15-25 MPH. Going to freeze along the gulf coast & the hill country tonight...

Freeze warning in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am CST Friday... The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a freeze warning... which is in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am CST Friday.
  • Event... temperatures 29 to 32 degrees
  • Timing... midnight to 9 am CST Friday
  • Impact... damage to tender vegetation and sensitive plants may occur and these plants should be protected
Drained the irrigation system.

Turned on the heater & fan in the greenhouse, then the light in the well house.

Replace the battery pack in the UPS for Mrs. Ranch's computer system.

Pulled the Canadian & Buckboard bacon out of the cure brine (they been in it for 2 weeks) & packaged them up for a quick freeze before vacuum packing. It's way to nasty out there to smoke them right now...

Madeit up to 22 F today. Winds gusting to 25 mph. Windchill temps stayed below zero most of the day. My daughter had indoor recess.

Tomorrow I have another vacation day. I'll spend part of it looking for a new pair of gloves. My everday gloves are now torn in several places but they're over ten years old. These are Mountin Hard Ware brand and have held up well. Unfortionatly around here we really only have Dicks, MC Sports, and Gander Mtn as sources. I still have two pairs of really warm hand knit mittins - one pair I knit and one pair my mom knit.

It didn't get as cold as the predicted last night (it only made it as low as 36 degrees). Currently it is 43 & sunny here so I've turned off the greenhouse heater & the light in the well house.

Made bread.

Clean the ceiling fans & reverse their direction for winter.

Treat the fire ant mounds that have appeared after the recent rains.

Vacation day. Woke up at 6 and made pancakes and scrambled eggs before the kid had to get the bus for 1st grade indoctrination.

Made bread.

Bought a new pair of gloves.

Local grocery store had its "Ultimate One Day Meat Sale". 4 pot roasts, and 50 pounds of chicken later we refilled some of our freezer.

Never got above 20 F and still windy out. Calling for snow to start tomorrow morning and go through Monday morning and get up to 9 inches. Then we get cold. Forecast high on Wednesday is 3.

Will put Charlie Brown Christmas on for the kids after dinner.
