Bad storm this morning, tornado passed by about 3 miles from the house. Got lucky. I have about 300 more tomatoes to transplant into larger cups. Worked contract today for my prior employer. Designed a lifting device for some offshore riser pipes and did some basic math for some of the brilliant employees the company decided to keep.

Letting the pup burn off some of his excess energy this morning. He didn't seem to like cold windy weather of the last couple of days & has been an ankle-biting devil in the house... This morning, we will spend sometime outdoors & then he'll hopefully learn how to make 'salsa molcajete', rice, pinto beans & then chicken fajitas. Lil' Dieter's done pretty well in the week that we've had him, his housebreaking is coming along nicely & he knows his name now... not bad considering that he's just 8 weeks old today (he celebrated by eating his 1st asparagus spear with his lunch), LOL!!!.

Still transplanting tomatoes into stryofoam cups. Good grief, I'm going to need the entire town of Needville to come out to get rid of all of these.

Got a banner in today for the little gig I'm setting up at home. Vistaprint.com did the printing, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality.

Spent the day doing some maintenance on the farm. Fixed a few problems on the tractor and power washed it.

Took my Jeep to the dealer for the state inspection & an oil change. Then did the shopping. Mrs. Ranch stayed home babysitting the ankle biter.

Made rolled wheat bread.

The sealant I applied to the seams in the Gator's bed is now cured so I applied 2 coats of bed-liner to them. This project is finally done so I can park it in the barn & put my Jeep back in the garage.

I used the last of the bed-liner to seal 3 plywood ramps (I use for 1 of them to get the rototiller up/over the garden wall).

I spent most of the day outside in a tee shirt. In February. This is nuts.

Sunny and about 64 F out. Record high.

Pruned the grape vine, peach tree, cherry tree, and thinned old wood from the privet hedge.

Another day over 60 F and full sun. Getting really hard not to play in the garden and start seeds. Only about 13 weeks until traditional frost free date.

I hope this weather ends soon and we drop back toward seasonal temps. I'm worried about trees budding out f this keeps up much longer.

I started to tie down cherry branches to train the tree and scaffold branches. I had to tie to the trunk rather than a stake as I found the ground frozen about 4 inches down when I was pounding the stake in.

I need to spray fungicide on my fruit trees and am playing with the idea of cold frames.

It was coming down pretty good here early this morning (it started about 0130 hrs). We have received 2.11" thus far & the tanks are catching some good run-off now. The downside is the new pup doesn't like the thunder/lightning at all & he was very vocal about it... it sounded like we had a coyote in the bedroom all night. It's going to be a long day as we are all tired...

Cut the seed potatoes & applied powdered sulphur to them. We are suppose to have 5 good days here (starting tomorrow) & I want to get them planted.

Made pizza dough & sauce for tonight's supper.

Did the weekly shopping.

Installed rear & side reflectors to the Gator.

Watered the seed flats, this time with a weak fertilizer solution.

Weighed Dieter & he's up to 18 lbs. now (he was 10.25 lbs. @ 6 weeks). He eats like a wolf & loves duck, LOL!!! On Thursday he'll be 9 weeks old, so he's got an appointment with the vet to get 'chipped' & his 2nd round of vaccinations. We can actually see him changing day by day...

Made bread.

Took Lil' Dieter to the vet for his appointment... he now weighs 18.9 lbs. Made an appointment for his 13 week stuff.

Watered the seed flats in the greenhouse.

Made Mexican rice to go with our supper. We have leftover pinto beans & Mrs. Ranch is making quesadillas.

We finally received the new padlocks last night. This morning I did the required drilling (where needed) to accommodate the larger diameter shackles & got 9 installed. I'll finish tomorrow... They are hefty compared to the locks they're replacing.

Cut the grass.

Harvested 20 asparagus spears to go with tonight's supper.

Woke up to 1/2 an inch of snow. Doesn't look like more is going to come down. Forecast called for 2" to 3" by this morning.

Refilled the bird feeders & put out another suet block.

Put out 3 rolls of hay for the cattle.

Watered everything in the greenhouse.

Trimmed Dieter's toenails with a Dremel tool for the first time... He did not like it but he went along with it after being pinned. Fun times for both of us... Tomorrow I'll introduce him to ear cleaning...

Burned the trash.

Treated the fire ant mounds in the yard.

Got a pot of pinto beans soaking for tomorrow.

LIL' Dieter has been an absolute terror today. We had a number of 'come to Jesus' moments due to him being headstrong. He'll understand his place in a few weeks when the shock collar goes on....

that was not fun replacing those parts on the old girl... BUT there was not extra parts laying around once done...lol
took her for a spin around the property she can once again do a 15* grade in reverse. looked at all the pulleys i replace they where slap wore out.
she is strong as a ox ready to tackle any projects that need to be done..!!!!! still need to order a new seat for her and pick up a few bolts for the belt cover for the deck...

while i had no g/t in the barn it was a real good time to clean and straighten out the barn, found tools been looking for a while, plus had to make room for 2 g/t's now...

old meets new....
DSC_0013.JPG
funny how the old girl has 7 pages of illustrated part breakdowns and the new has only 4 pages.. it's all pre-fabed components and plastic now.
one thing i need to research is installing cruise control on the new g/t.

Made a pot of pinto beans. I'll add the cilantro later...

Pinto_Beans_022717.jpg

Made a batch of scalloped potatoes.

Scalloped_Potatoes_022717.jpg

Lil' Dieter assisted in watering/fertilizing the seed flats in the greenhouse, LOL!!!

I weighted Lil' Dieter again this morning (he's now 20 lbs) so we could adjust the amount of food he gets at his meals... Based on my calculations, he will weigh 90 lbs as an adult.
