food prices - eggs

I was talking to my mom down in South Carolina and it sounds like basic food items have big regional differences in price. She was getting a dozen eggs - basic grocery store large - for about $1.50 where they're on sale this week here for $2.79 a dozen. On the other hand I am paying half what she was for beef.

At $2.79 we've cut eggs from our diet and I am kind of missing them enough to contemplate laying hens - too bad winter is starting.

What are you guys paying for eggs?

They're the same here in the grocery stores... If we need eggs, our friend down the road gives us whatever we need.

People are paying a\ lot more for FREE RANGE EGGS without knowing what they are getting. My daughter's suburban horse farm backs up to a chicken farm, that used to be a Cage operation.

California came out with a lot of resttrictions on Caged Hens, so he converted to Free Range, which is just Chickens crowded in pens with mud and manure bottoms, and is a real mess when it rains. No shelter, they are in the weather all the time.

That is Progress????
